Sefton@Work march with pride

Sefton Pride 2025

Sefton was loud, proud and full of colour last weekend as colleagues from across the council came together to march at Sefton Pride. Sefton@Work joined members of Sefton Council's LGBTQ+ staff group, the The Rainbow Network, and colleagues from Sefton Fostering, New Beginnings Youth Group and others took to the streets to celebrate our LGBTQ+ communities and stand together in support of equality, visibility and inclusion.

Why is Pride important?

For many of us, Pride is more than just a party. Pride marches began as acts of protest, demanding change in a world that was often hostile or indifferent. While we’ve made huge progress, there’s still work to do. Pride is still important because it reminds us that equality isn’t just a box we tick. It’s a daily effort to create safer, fairer spaces where everyone is valued for who they are.

That’s exactly what our LGBTQ+ staff network, The Rainbow Network, is all about. They were proud to represent Sefton at Pride, alongside colleagues who are equally committed to making our workplaces and services inclusive for all.

We’ve put together a short video of our Pride day—check it out and see some of the amazing energy, joy and solidarity on display.

Navajo Chartermark

Did you know Sefton@Work was the first Local Authority department to obtain the Navajo Charter Mark, and now Sefton Council has it.  The Navajo Merseyside & Cheshire LGBTIQA+ Charter Mark is more than just a badge—it’s a recognised equality mark that shows we’re serious about understanding and meeting the specific needs of LGBTIQA+ people. Sponsored by In-Trust Merseyside and supported by LGBTIQA+ networks across the region, the Charter Mark is a sign of good practice, commitment and progress.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us. We hope you had a brilliant day, and whether you were marching or cheering from the sidelines, your support truly matters. Here's to continuing the journey together.
