Success for Sefton Voluntary Routeway Programme Celebrated

A group of local residents have taken a significant step closer to employment success after completing the latest Sefton Voluntary Routeway Programme, delivered by Sefton@Work in partnership with Sefton Council departments.

Five clients successfully completed the 10-week programme, which saw them undertake placements across a range of council services including Active Sefton, Sefton@Work, Sefton Community Learning, Formby Library and Green Sefton. Attending two days per week, participants gained valuable, hands-on experience while building confidence and developing key transferable skills.

Before beginning their placements, clients also took part in dedicated customer service training, equipping them with essential skills to engage effectively with colleagues and service users. This training helped set a strong foundation for their success throughout the programme.

Throughout their placements, clients made meaningful contributions to their host departments, adding real value through their work while gaining insight into public sector roles. From supporting community initiatives to assisting with daily operations, their efforts have been widely praised by managers across the services involved.

Sefton@Work ensured that practical barriers to participation were removed, providing travel support, clothing and lunch vouchers for the duration of the programme. Each client was also supported closely by a dedicated Placement Officer, alongside their respective line managers within the departments, helping to ensure a positive and structured experience from start to finish.

The programme concluded today with a celebration event, where participants were recognised for their dedication and progress. Certificates were presented alongside vouchers as a token of congratulations for their hard work and commitment over the past 10 weeks.

Importantly, this achievement marks the beginning of the next stage in their employment journey. Having completed the programme, all participants are now eligible for Sefton Council’s Guaranteed Interview Scheme, giving them a valuable advantage when applying for roles within the organisation. Sefton@Work will continue to provide tailored support, particularly with job applications and interview preparation, to help each individual move closer to securing sustainable employment.

The success of the Voluntary Routeway Programme highlights the positive impact of partnership working and targeted support in helping local people overcome barriers, build skills, and access new opportunities.
