About the role

Job Description

Support worker required for a 17-year-old young man with a diagnosis of Down Syndrome. He is a confident, talkative and engaging young person who can clearly share his thoughts, interests, worries, and wishes. He has positive relationships with his family and enjoys spending time at home, particularly playing on his Xbox, as well as attending college where he has friendships.

He enjoys a range of activities including youth clubs, holidays, music, football (Everton), photography, and community outings, but currently spends most of his time at home after college. He has expressed a strong desire for greater independence and would like support from a PA to access activities such as the gym, bowling, and social outings.

He recognises some of his own vulnerabilities, including feeling unsafe around strangers and not being confident to go out alone, as he worries about getting lost or being harmed. Despite this, he shows growing confidence, humour, and self-awareness, and continues to build resilience and communication skills.

Overall, this young man is a well-loved young person with clear ambitions, interests, and goals, who would benefit from support to safely increase his independence, social opportunities, and confidence in the community.

Hours:

13 hrs per week

15 hrs per week during school holidays

Days and times to be mutually agreed with employer

Rate of Pay: £13.00 per hour

Duties include:

Provide 1:1 support.

To provide close supervision

Interact and promote communication

Support to safely increase independence

Encourage confidence in the community

Support to access activities such as the gym, bowling, and social outings.

Support to access different social opportunities

Help to keep me safe whilst out and about.

Promote independence with personal care

Skills and qualities required:

You must be friendly, empathetic, and enthusiastic about caring for others.

Require experience/skills of care work (personal or work related)

Experience of supporting children/young people with additional needs (desirable)

Willingness to build up and develop positive relationships.

Be patient, kind and trustworthy.

Good communication skills

Punctual and reliable.

Driving licence (desirable)

An enhanced DBS check will be required before employment commences; this cost will be met by the employer.
