Job Purpose

To provide a direct support service to any victim or survivor of domestic abuse.

Main Responsibilities

Operate a helpline service for victims/survivors, professionals and the wider community.

Complete needs assessments, risk assessments and safety plans at the first point of contact.

Manage allocated cases, providing person-centred advice and support to help service users achieve their personal goals.

Encourage victims and survivors of domestic abuse to access support through proactive engagement, rapport building and assessment.

Manage a varied and changing caseload.

Conduct comprehensive assessments of need and risk for victims and survivors referred to the service.

Deliver short and longer-term risk management, safety planning and support where appropriate.

Identify, refer and signpost service users to relevant services in line with organisational and external policies and procedures.

Attend multi-agency and partnership meetings as required.

Provide guidance and advice to statutory and partner agencies within the scope of the role.

Advise service users of their rights and options for support.

Develop person-centred support plans using empowerment-based approaches.

Make referrals and coordinate multi-agency support where needed.

Advocate on behalf of service users to help reduce barriers to support and protection using a trauma-informed approach.

Assess needs and safety concerns in line with safeguarding policies and procedures.

Support monitoring, evaluation and reporting requirements in line with contract and service requirements.

Encourage service users to contribute to the development and improvement of services.

Support the induction and development of new staff, students and volunteers through shadowing and knowledge sharing.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on internal case management systems and local authority systems.

Produce reports and documents as required, including safeguarding conference reports, court reports, legal aid letters, monitoring reports and meeting minutes.

Maintain professional boundaries and comply with confidentiality and GDPR requirements.

Attend training, supervision and team meetings and keep up to date with relevant legislation, policy and best practice.

Undertake occasional evening and weekend work in line with service requirements. Time off in lieu will be provided.

Support fundraising and public relations activities that promote the charity.

Undertake other duties appropriate to the role as required.

Essential Requirements

Knowledge, Education and Qualifications

Relevant qualification or training in domestic abuse, criminal justice, law, social work, child development, substance misuse or a related field.

Thorough understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on victims, survivors and communities.

Sound knowledge of safeguarding legislation and practice.

Experience

Experience supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse, forced marriage, honour-based violence or individuals with complex needs.

Experience assessing and managing risk, completing needs assessments and safety planning.

Experience providing support to individuals with multiple or complex needs.

Knowledge of multi-agency working and partnership approaches.

Skills

Excellent listening and communication skills.

Ability to engage effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong organisational and case management skills.

Accurate record keeping, data collection and monitoring skills.

Good IT skills.

Experience producing professional reports, including reports for courts, case conferences and Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC).

Ability to manage a busy and complex caseload.
