Pay: £13.40 per hour, increasing to £14.74 per hour after successful completion of a 6-month probation period
Hours: 7 hours per week, Mondays 9:30am to 4:30pm
Contract: Permanent

About the Role

An independent lady with Usher Syndrome is looking for a reliable and compassionate Communicator/Guide to provide support with communication, daily living activities, appointments, and social activities.

This role involves acting as the individual's eyes and ears, relaying information clearly and accurately, and providing guidance and support both at home and when out in the community.

Key Responsibilities
---

Guide and support a visually and hearing-impaired individual both at home and in the community.

Relay spoken, written, non-verbal, and environmental information clearly and accurately.

Attend appointments, meetings, and social activities as required.

Take notes during meetings and telephone conversations.

Assist with making phone calls, writing letters and emails, and completing forms.

Support with shopping, housework, leisure activities, and gym or swimming visits.

Assist with daily living tasks as required.

Ensure information is communicated using clear speech.

Maintain privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.

Participate in any relevant training, support, or supervision sessions.

About the Employer

The employer is an independent woman with Usher Syndrome who lives in her own home. She is active, organised, and enjoys keeping busy. Despite being both visually and hearing impaired, she maintains an independent lifestyle and enjoys using technology, attending appointments, socialising, and exploring new experiences.

The successful candidate will help support her independence by assisting with communication, travel, paperwork, managing correspondence, and accessing activities in the community.

Essential Requirements
---

Female applicant due to the personal nature of some duties (exempt under the Equality Act 2010).

Clear and fluent spoken English.

Full driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance.

Good computer skills.

Common sense, reliability, and a good sense of humour.

Compassionate and understanding approach.

Desirable
---

Knowledge or experience of supporting people with hearing loss and sight loss.

Additional Information
---

Non-smokers preferred.

Training, including e-learning, will be provided where required.

Occasional evening work may be available.

Additional hours may be offered to cover annual leave for other staff members.
