About the role
Job Description
We’re looking for a Caring and Enthusiastic Support Worker to provide support to a friendly 7-year-old boy with complex health and developmental needs. He is non-verbal with severe ASD, global developmental delay, sensory processing difficulties and on the pathway for ADHD.
Despite these challenges, he is a happy little boy who’s always smiling, he loves
being outdoors and sensory experiences like lights and movement.
He particularly enjoys structured, calm activities such as nature walks, swimming and
quiet outings and loves bubbles and bouncing on trampolines.
He experiences significant sensory sensitivities and does not like loud noises or being too warm.
6 hrs per week
8 hrs per week during school holidays (Days and Times to be mutually agreed with employer)
£12.75 per hour
Duties and responsibilities (day to day)
Provide 1-1 support
Be patient and understanding
Play and interact
Support with communication and interaction skills
Support to regulate mood
Providing emotional and behavioural support.
Close supervision always required, need to keep him safe
Must hold hand when not in wheelchair due no awareness of danger.
Always use his wheelchair in the community due to a tendency to run off and become overwhelmed, often displaying "flight or freeze" responses
Provide support to access the social activities and sensory experiences he enjoys
Helping identify new interests and suitable sensory-friendly activities
Providing personal care: feeding, toileting, and safety, while maintaining dignity and comfort
Skills Required
Friendly, caring, and empathetic
Hardworking and committed
Experience with children with additional needs is desirable
Experience of working in a caring role formal or informal desirable
Ability to build up good relationships-Reliable, punctual, and understanding
Have good communication skills
Good at problem solving challenges
Driving licence and access to own vehicle desirable but not essential
An enhanced DBS check will be required before employment commences; this cost will be met by the employer.
