About the role
Role:
To help with a delightful 15-year-old who requires support to
explore the community and gain independence skills.
She has a chromosomal deletion at 22q11.21 (Central 22q11.2
deletion). This is also known as Di George Syndrome. Due to this She can
present and have symptoms including learning and behavioural problems,
including learning disabilities. In addition, it is worth knowing that people
with this condition can have autism traits and or autistic-like characteristics
that affects communication and social interactions, such as poor eye contact,
sensitivity to touch and aggression and or ADHD traits. Unfortunately, this condition also has
predisposition for mental health issues. she has experienced onset of a crisis
when she became extremely overwhelmed with many changes a, confusion and unmet
needs. She is currently stable and has support from Sefton Camhs and accesses
psychiatry reviews to monitor. Is a friendly and trusting soul with a dry sense
of humour yet is venerable and can at times appear preoccupied when she is
processing events, thoughts and attempting to adapt.
She is currently on the Alder Hey autistic pathway.
She had a non-cleft velophryngeal
insufficiency and had palatal lengthening muscle repositioning procedure in
March 2022. When tired she may not always pronounce her speech clearly which
means she can appear difficult to understand at times.
She has been heavily reliant on
her family to maintain her safety, initiate activities and family mean
everything to her. However, due to lots
of changes and now accessing additional social hours, she feels it is time to
build independence and social skills with others.
She enjoys the cinema, cafes,
swimming, being outdoors at the park or beach. Loves playing board/card games.
Enjoys “decent music” and enjoys to dance.

Duties:
* To
assist her to recognise and build her interests.
* To
initiate activities for her to share experiences, you must be energetic and
proactive and willing to be beaten at cards!
* To have
a light sense of humour and be willing to participate in her dry sense of
humour.
* Assist her
to maintain her safety within the home and community and establish and build
life skills.
* Promote
independence skills.
* Support
to participate in activities that I enjoy and help me to discover new ones.
* Support
to access the wider community and possibly explore new environments.
* Help to
keep me safe whilst out and about.
* To advise me when I have
spilt food on me and remind me to wipe myself clean.
Essential Skills:
* You must be friendly, empathetic,
and enthusiastic about caring for others.
* Ideally have experience of
supporting children/young people with additional needs.
* Willingness to build up and
develop positive relationships.
* Be patient, kind and trustworthy.
* Have good communication skills and
the ability to be punctual and reliable.
* Ability to be creative and use your own
initiative.
* Confident and adaptable.
A DBS is required, and you will NOT be
able to provide the support until this has cleared.
