About the role

Job Description

The role is to support a man in his 40’s with severe
learning difficulties and physical disability to enjoy a varied and
fulfilling social life and also include some aspects of personal care.

He is a happy, easy-going person who enjoys TV shows and
songs for young children and any upbeat music. He enjoys seeing farm animals,
tractors, diggers etc.

Although classed as non-verbal he can communicate using a
very limited vocabulary, he is very expressive in face and body language
however he is reliant on those supporting him to always anticipate and pre-empt
his care needs.

He requires support with all transfers and mobility; he uses
a manual wheelchair for longer distances and on uneven surfaces however needs
to be encouraged to walk where possible (and safe) to help maintain core
strength and confidence.

Duties

- Provide support, encouragement and companionship
through interaction and conversation.

- Support to access the community, eg cafes, local
farms and other suitable venues for social stimulation.

- Monitor general health and wellbeing, reporting
any concerns to the family.

- Personal care. Support to manage incontinence
ensuring skin integrity is maintained.

- Assist with meals and drinks either provided by
family or by purchasing appropriate (easy to chew) meals at venues. Supervision
and support to ensure that food/drinks are safe temperature, mouthfuls are
correct size etc.

- Assist with ambulation and mobility as needed,
including use of wheelchair.

- Support with physical therapy exercises,
including muscle stretching and strengthening exercises
Support with medication as directed by family.

Skills

- A caring, trustworthy, confident and compassionate
person, upbeat and bubbly with a good sense of humour.

- Experience of supporting someone's personal care
and other additional needs is preferred.

- Valid driving licence is desirable.

DBS

An enhanced DBS check will be
required before employment commences; this cost will be met by the employer. We are a private household therefore
we CANNOT provide sponsorship, so you MUST have a full right to work in the UK.

Hours

Up to a maximum of 37 hours per week, Monday-Friday with
occasional weekends if required. Hours to be agreed to suit the man being
supported, his family and the worker.

Job share will be considered.

Rate of pay

£12.75 per hour.
