Colin's Story

I first met Colin 26, from Netherton in June 2009 he had been unemployed for over 12 months when he came in to the Sefton@Work office in Netherton for assistance in his in search for employment. Colin was at a stage in his life where he was very low due to losing his job and coming off a health-related benefit. Colin attending weekly appointments which was focused on looking for suitable employment, while helping Colin keep focused in times of self doubt and low motivation. Tesco`s one of the countries biggest supermarket was building a 24 hour superstore in the Litherland area. Colin was encouraged to apply for one of the opportunities availed within Tesco`s. There were several stages to recruitment process starting with open days and interview skills sessions both of which Colin attended. A one to one interview with Tescos followed, Colin was successful at interview and was then offered a place on an 8 week pre-employment programme which Sefton@Work had put together in conjunction with Tesco. Part of the Job offer was full attendance and completion of training which consisted of Retail Works, Health & Safety, Food Safety, Manual Handling and Self Development training. Colin successfully completed the 8-week pre-employment programme with Sefton@Work and has now started his employment as a Store Assistant with Tesco.
